Cannabis software company Akerna hires JMP Securities to help with strategic review

Akerna Corp. said Tuesday it has hired JMP Securities as it conducts a strategic review to consider its alternatives. “Our goal is to ensure we are taking every possible step to maximize value for our stakeholders,” Chief Executive Jessica Billingsley said in a statement. The cannabis software company also said that Chief Financial Officer John Fowle was leaving the company effective May 17 to pursue other interests. It named Dean Ditto interim CFO, who has worked as a consultant to the company since April 21. Ray Thompson will transition from his current role of president & COO of Akerna to special adviser to CEO. Akerna shares have fallen 74% in the year to date, and closed Monday at 46 cents. The AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF has fallen 45% year-to-date, and the S&P 500 has fallen 16%.
