GameStop names Nir Patel as COO, after last COO left company in October

Shares of GameStop Corp. gained 0.2% in premarket trading Monday, after the videogame and consumer electronics retailer said it named Nir Patel as its chief operating officer, effective May 31. Patel was most recently chief executive of retailer Belk. Patel takes the COO role after former COO Jenna Owens left the company in October, just seven months after being named COO. The stock’s early gain Monday comes after it ran up 21.0% over the past two days, which followed a 36.0% amid a five-day losing streak through last Wednesday. The stock has slumped 33.7% year to date through Friday, while the S&P 500 has shed 15.6%.
