Karine Jean-Pierre named new White House press secretary, as Jen Psaki departs

Karine Jean-Pierre has been promoted to White House press secretary, President Joe Biden announced Thursday in a news release. Jean-Pierre, who has been the White House’s principal deputy press secretary, is taking over from Jen Psaki, who will depart from the White House on May 13, the release said. Reports a month ago said Psaki was planning to leave the Biden administration this spring and was in exclusive talks to join MSNBC .
