Biden to prod Congress to act on gun violence in speech tonight, White House says
President Joe Biden on Thursday night will give a televised address on “the need for Congress to act to pass commonsense laws to combat the epidemic of gun violence that is taking lives every day,” the White House said. The president is scheduled to speak from the White House at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. His speech comes the same day a House committee was poised to advance legislation billed as an emergency response to recent mass shootings, including at a school in Uvalde, Texas.
