White House criticizes Texas Gov. Abbott’s order directing National Guard to deport undocumented immigrants

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Friday criticized Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order that directs the National Guard to apprehend and deport undocumented immigrants. Immigration enforcement is a federal authority and states should not be “meddling in it,” she told reporters during a briefing. Abbott “has a track record of causing chaos and confusion at the border,” she added, in an apparent reference to the governor’s move earlier this year over additional inspections for trucks.
