Biden tells oil companies: Don’t use hurricane as ‘excuse’ to raise gasoline prices

President Joe Biden on Wednesday said oil companies should not use Hurricane Ian as “an excuse to raise gasoline prices,” as the storm was expected to make landfall north of Fort Myers, Fla., on Wednesday morning or early afternoon. “Do not — let me repeat, do not — do not use this an excuse to raise gasoline prices or gouge the American people,” the president said in brief remarks about the storm at the opening of a White House conference on hunger and nutrition. Biden said he’d spoken with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis “for some time” Tuesday evening and said he’d made clear to the governor and Florida mayors that the federal government “is ready to help in every single way possible.”
