: S&P 500, Dow open higher, adding to gains after best week since June; Nasdaq declines

U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday after a volatile night of trading for futures as investors continued to react to shifting expectations about the future pace of Federal Reserve rate hikes. The S&P 500 SPX rose 12 points, or 0.3%, to 3,763. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA gained 184 points, or 0.6%, to 31,277. The Nasdaq Composite COMP fell 44 points, or 0.4%, to 10,812.
