: Tesla plans to double capacity at Berlin ‘gigafactory’: WSJ

Tesla Inc. TSLA is aiming at doubling the size of its factory near Berlin, which could make the factory the largest auto making plant in Germany, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing local documents. Tesla would produce up to one million electric cars a year at the factory, and has received preliminary approval for some of its changes, according to the report. Full approval hinges on an environmental-impact study, the newspaper said. The study will take into consideration input from residents, who could raise concerns, the report said. A public hearing could take place in October to discuss any issues, the newspaper said. Tesla is slated to report earnings after the bell on Wednesday, with the stock up 134% so far this year, compared with gains of around 18% for the S&P 500 index. SPX
