: Imax enjoyed best ever July box office, boosted by ‘Oppenheimer’
Imax Corp. IMAX enjoyed its best ever July at the box office, boosted by the success of summer blockbuster “Oppenheimer,” the company announced Wednesday. The high-end movie-theater operator delivered $176.2 million at the global box office in July, smashing its previous record, set in July 2019, by $52.1 million. “Oppenheimer,” which was shot with Imax cameras and directed by Christopher Nolan, has already grossed more than $86 million across the global Imax network, with weeks left in its initial Imax run, the company said, in a statement. The movie also brought in an additional $4.1 million on Monday. Imax has extended its global run of “Oppenheimer” for an additional week through Aug. 17, and there are plans to schedule Imax showtimes of “Oppenheimer” through late summer and fall, the company added. Shares of Imax are down 2% in premarket trades Wednesday.
