: The Dow’s 4 earnings reporters’ stocks are adding about 60 points to the Dow’s price

The shares of the four Dow Jones Industrial Average components that reported results were all rallying Tuesday, and accounted for a little more than half of the Dow’s point gain. Verizon Communications Inc.’s stock VZ jumped 8.7% toward their best day in 15 years, 3M Co. shares MMM shot up 4.9% to bounce off an 11-year low and Coca-Cola Co.’s stock KO gained 2.5% toward their best gain in 11 months. Those stocks were the Dow’s top three performers in afternoon trading. Dow Inc.’s stock DOW was the fifth-best Dow performer, as it rose 1.6% to bounce off an 11-month low after beating earnings expectations. The combined price gain of the earnings reporter’s stocks ($9.04) was adding about 60 points to the Dow’s price, while the Dow rose 117 points, or 0.4%. Meanwhile, the two Dow members that were slated to report results after the closing bell were mixed, as shares of Microsoft Corp. MSFT slipped 0.1% and Visa Inc.’s stock V gained 1.0%. Combined, the price moves of those stocks added 12 points to the Dow’s price.
