: McCarthy to meet Taiwan’s president in California to avoid angering China: report

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy plans to meet in California with Taiwan’s president, Tsai Ing-wen, in order to avoid China’s ire, said a Financial Times report on Monday. Last year, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the self-ruled island claimed by China triggered increased tensions between the U.S. and Beijing.
