: White House says 14th Amendment ‘is not going to fix’ the debt-ceiling impasse

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Tuesday threw cold water on the view that the 14th Amendment could resolve Washington’s debt-ceiling standoff. “It is not going to fix the current problem that we have right now,” she told reporters during a press briefing, after being asked if the Biden White House has ruled out using the amendment. On Sunday, President Joe Biden offered a similar view, saying he believes he has the authority to invoke the 14th Amendment, but it may be too late to go that route.
