: HCA Healthcare reports data breach that exposed patient information

HCA Healthcare Inc. HCA said Monday that patient names, phone numbers, dates of birth, appointment dates and other personal details had been exposed online “by an unknown and unauthorized party” in an apparent theft from an external storage location used to automate formatting of email messages. The compromised data does not include patient diagnoses, treatment or other clinical information; credit card and other payment details; or Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and passwords, the company said in a release. HCA said it has not found evidence of any malicious activity on its networks related to the incident. The company will contact impacted patients and provide credit monitoring and identity protection services, where appropriate, according to the release.
