: Dow slips at the open as U.S. stocks kick off the week mixed

U.S. stocks opened mixed Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipping after five straight days of gains, as investors assessed a survey on manufacturing activity in New York state. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA was down 0.1% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 SPX edged up 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP rose 0.3%, according to FactSet data, at last check. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Empire State manufacturing survey, released Monday, showed general business conditions fell 5.5 points in July to 1.1. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had expected a flat reading. U.S. stocks were mixed Monday morning after last week the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all notched weekly gains.
