: Pfizer and Moderna updated COVID vaccines approved by FDA
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved updated mRNA COVID vaccines from Moderna Inc. MRNA and Pfizer Inc. PFE. People five years of age and older are eligible for a single dose of an updated mRNA vaccine if at least two months have passed since their last COVID shot, while previously vaccinated children six months through four years of age are eligible for one or two doses of an updated shot, depending on the previous vaccine they received, according to the FDA. “Vaccination remains critical to public health and continued protection against serious consequences of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death,” Dr. Peter Marks, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said in a statement. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s advisory committee on immunizations has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday to discuss and vote on updated COVID vaccine recommendations.
