: PC monitor shipments fell in Q2, IDC says, but here’s what could help drive a 2024 rebound
Global shipments of PC monitors fell 17.1% year over year during the second quarter, IDC said, calling it a “significant drop” in demand after the pandemic-era digital boom. While the drop wasn’t as bad as expected, IDC said it expected a further 10.3% drop in shipments this year amid a shaky economic backdrop. “Although the market slightly exceeded expectations by reaching just over 29.9 million units, it still fell short of pre-COVID levels observed in the second quarter of 2019, signaling that recovery remains a work in progress following the surge in volume witnessed from 2020 to 2022,” IDC said. The declines, while broad-based, were most pronounced in North America and Western Europe, IDC said, but added that it expected a modest rebound next year. “Recovery is anticipated in 2024 as consumer demand recovers and businesses migrate towards Windows 11 PCs, which is expected to stimulate office monitor purchases,” IDC said. “However, this rebound will be gradual with volumes not expected to surpass 2019 levels until 2025.”
